SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

Comprehensive Scholarship Program of Bacolod City
(City Ordinance Number 386, Series of 2005)

Scholarship Program for the Poor

  • • The Scholarship Program for the Poor but deserving students covers 4 to 5-year degree courses (CHED), vocational and technical courses, and Alternative Learning System.
  • • The grantee under CHED supervised courses shall be entitled to tuition and other school fees not to exceed P20, 000/semester, school and living allowance of P3, 500/semester.
  • • The grantee under TESDA supervised courses shall be entitled to 100% tuition and other school fees scholarship and an allowance of P 700/month.

Qualifications:
  • 1. Must not be more than 25 years of age at the time of the application in the program, except in the Vocational and Technical degree courses, and alternative Learning System;
  • 2. With parents/guardian (whoever is/are employed )having a combined gross monthly income of not more than six thousand pesos (P6,000) only and/or belongs to the current poverty threshold as identified by the Department of Social Services and Development, and/or his/her monthly income shall not exceed six thousand pesos (P6,000) upon reaching the legal age;
  • 3. For the degree courses, must have passed the College Admission Test (CAT);
  • 4. Must finish or graduate the course in the number of years or months as prescribed by the curriculum of the course where he/she is enrolled;
  • 5. Must not have a failing grade in any of it’s subjects for the course of which he/she is enrolled;
  • 6. He/she is not presently enjoying any scholarship or study grant from the government or any private institution aside from the scholarship availed under this ordinance.

Documentary Requirements:
  • • Certificate of good moral character by the High School Principal where he/she had graduated (for CHED supervised courses);
  • • National secondary Achievement Test (NSAT);
  • • Certified photocopy of Birth Certificate of the applicant and/or any secondary document that will prove the fact of birth of the applicant;
  • • Latest combined BIR income tax return of parents or guardian/s of the applicant;
  • • Barangay Endorsement and Certificate of Residency of the applicant;
  • • Application form.

Academic Scholarship Program

  • • The Academic Scholarship Program is for CHED supervised courses only;
  • • The grantee under this program shall be entitled to 100% tuition and other school fees scholarship, school and living allowance of P3,500/semester;

Qualifications:
  • 1. Must not be more than 20 years of age at the time of the application in the program;
  • 2. Belong to the top 20% of the graduating class in high school;
  • 3. Must have passed the College Admission Test (CAT);
  • 4. Must have passed the qualifying exam to be administered by the City;
  • 5. Must finish or graduate the course in the number of years as prescribed by the curriculum of the course where he/she is enrolled;
  • 6. With parents/guardian (whoever is/are employed) having a combined gross monthly income of not more than ten thousand (P10,000) upon reaching the legal age;
  • 7. The grantee must maintain a grade of not lower than 85% or its equivalent in all subjects for the degree course of which he/she is enrolled;
  • 8. That he/she is not presently enjoying any scholarship or study grant from the government or any private institution aside from the scholarship availed under this ordinance.

Documentary Requirements:
  • • Certificate of ranking in the top 20% of the graduating class by the High School Principal where he/she had graduated;
  • • Certificate of good moral character by the High School Principal where he/she had graduated;
  • • National Secondary Achievement Test (NSAT);
  • • Certified photocopy of Form 138;
  • • Certified photocopy of Birth Certificate of the applicant and/or any secondary document that will prove the fact of birth of the applicant;
  • • Barangay Certificate of Residency of the applicant;
  • • Application Form.

Scholarship program for the children and/or dependents of barangay workers

  • • The Scholarship Program for the Children and/or Dependents of Barangay Workers covers 4 to 5-year degree courses (CHED) Vocational and Technical courses, and Alternative Learning System;
  • • The grantee under CHED supervised courses shall be entitled to tuition and other school fees not to exceed P20,000/semester, school and living allowance of P3, 500/semester
  • • The grantee under TESDA supervised courses shall be entitled to 100% tuition and other school fees scholarship and an allowance of P700/month.

Qualifications:
  • 1. Must be a child or dependents of Barangay-based workers in the City of Bacolod;
  • 2. Must not be more than 25 years of age at the time of the application in the program, except in the Vocational and Technical degree courses, and Alternative Learning System;
  • 3. For the degree courses, must have passed the College Admission Test (CAT);
  • 4. Must finish or graduate the course in the number of years or months as prescribed by the curriculum of the course where he/she is enrolled;
  • 5. Must not have a failing grade in any of its subjects for the course of which he/she is enrolled;

Documentary Requirements:

  • • Barangay Endorsement and Certificate of Residency that the applicant is a child or dependent of a Barangay-based worker issued by the Barangay Captain concerned;
  • • Certificate of good moral character by the High School Principal where he/she graduated;
  • • National Secondary Achievement Test (NSAT);
  • • Certified photocopy of Form 138;
  • • Certified photocopy of Birth Certificate of the applicant and/or any secondary document that will prove the fact of birth of the applicant;
  • • Latest combined BIR income tax return of parents or guardian/s of the applicant;
  • • Application form.

Scholarship program for the differently-abled person

  • • The Scholarship Program for Persons with Disabilities covers 4 to 5-year degree course (Formal Education), Vocational and Technical courses, and Alternative Learning System;
  • • The grantee under CHED supervised courses shall be entitled to tuition and other school fees not to exceed P20,000/semester, school and living allowance of P3, 500/semester
  • • The grantee under TESDA supervised courses shall be entitled to 100% tuition and other school fees scholarship and an allowance of P 700/month.

Qualifications:
  • 1. Must not be more than 30 years of age at the time of the application in the program, except in the Vocational and Technical degree courses, and Alternative Learning System;
  • 2. For the degree courses, must have passed the College Admission Test (CAT) given by the admitting College or University;
  • 3. For the degree courses, must have passed the qualifying exam to be administered by the City;
  • 4. Must finish or graduate the course in the number of years as prescribed by the curriculum of the course where he/she is enrolled;
  • 5. With parents/guardian (whoever is/are employed) having a combined gross monthly income of not more than ten thousand (P10,000) , and/or his/her monthly income shall not exceed ten thousand pesos ( P 10,000) upon reaching the legal age
  • 6. The grantee must maintain a grade of not lower than 80% or its equivalent in all subjects for the degree course of which he/ she is enrolled;
  • 7. That he/she is not presently enjoying any scholarship or study grant from the government or any private institution aside from the scholarship availed under this ordinance.

Documentary Requirements:
  • • Certificate of good moral character by the High School Principal where he/she had graduated (for CHED supervised courses);
  • • National Secondary Achievement Test (NSAT);
  • • Certified photocopy of Form 138;
  • • Certified photocopy of Birth Certificate of the applicant and/or any secondary document that will prove the fact of birth of the applicant;
  • • Latest combined BIR income tax return of parents or guardian/s of the applicant;
  • • Barangay Certificate of Residency of the applicant;
  • • Application form.

Teacher and career employee of the city advancement program

  • • The Teacher and Career Employee of the City Advancement Program covers Masteral, Doctorate, and Post-graduate degrees;
  • • The grantee under this program shall be entitled to tuition and other school fees scholarship not to exceed P15, 000/semester for Masteral and Post-graduate degree, and other Tuition and other school fees scholarship not to exceed
  • P20, 000/semester for Doctorate Degree.

Qualifications:
  • 1. Must not be more than 50 years of age at the time of the application in the program;
  • 2. Must be a regular/fulltime Faculty of the Public schools, City-funded college recommending him/her to the program and/or a career employee of the City;
  • 3. Must submit certified true copy of enrollment form with receipts of payment;
  • 4. Must not have a failing grade in any of his/her subjects for the degree course of which he/she is enrolled;
  • 5. That he/she is not presently enjoying any scholarship or study grant from the government or any private institution aside from the scholarship availed under this ordinance.
  • 6. Must have a rating score not below very satisfactory on his/her latest performance evaluation;
  • 7. Must have rendered service as regular and career employee of at least two years ( 2 years) prior to the availment of the grant;
  • 8. Must finish or complete the post-degree in three (3) years for Masteral, and Doctorate degree courses or in the no. of years as prescribed by the curriculum.

Documentary Requirements:
  • • Certified photocopy of applicant’s diploma;
  • • Certified photocopy of applicants transcript of records;
  • • Submit latest Performance Evaluation Score for employees and equivalent Evaluation System for teachers;
  • • Letter of Recommendation from the School Superintendent or Head of the Department where the applicant works;
  • • Certificate of Residency;
  • • Application form.

The Bacolod City Scholarship Committee has set different qualifying examination schedules for residents of Bacolod City who want to avail of the scholarship programs of the city government. more



City Council OKs Scholarship Programs


Councilor Greg Gasataya, chairman of the committee on education said the guidelines would be forwarded to the City Council for ratification."The city has allocated P3 million for its scholarship program. Qualified students will receive a P3,500 allowance each every semester aside from the free tuition fees," said Gasataya. more
